More good news about Thrift Savings Plan

Flexo over at Consumerism Commentary had a bit more to say about the Thrift Savings Plan. I'll just quote him here:

The article notes that one of the best 401(k) plans in existence is the government’s Thrift Savings Plan with an annual expense of only 0.06 percent. That has to be hard to beat. Unfortunately, you have to work for the government in order to be eligible.

So, good news if you already work for the government or are a member of the military. Unfortunately, military members get no matching funds, but the low annual expense still makes the TSP stand out.

Also, if you haven't already, please check out Consumerism Commentary. Flexo's blog is, admittedly, far cooler than my own.

Amir @ 3:06 pm

I have a 401k with my prior company and I am currently employed within the Federal Government which offers Thrift Saving Plans. I would like to know how comparable is the performance and returns of the TSP to private Mutual Funds. I am currently reviewing my option of a direct rollover to either the TSP or an investment company.
Thank you,
Amir

If you go to the official TSP website at http://www.tsp.gov , you can see a chart that lists the returns of the different "funds" in which you can invest your TSP contributions. Then, go to Morningstar at http://www.morningstar.com to see how your choice of private mutual funds has performed.

Since I'm not any kind of certified financial planner, you'll have to make your own decision on which choice is the best for you.
