Buried treasure: found

As promised in my last post, I went out dumpster diving. I could barely wait to go, and I went tonight even though it was threatening rain. So, how'd it go? Well, for a couple hours of (admittedly fun) dumpster diving, I netted:

Two partial 7-piece canister sets (missing one or two pieces because they were broken)
One martini glass (of a set of four; the rest were broken)
Two woven wood baskets
One wicker cup
One wastebasket (slightly chipped on one corner)

So, for my two hours I got probably $50-60 worth of stuff. Great haul, eh?

What does this all have to do with personal finance and the road to wealth? Well, I can only make so much money with the Navy, and my wife can only make so much with substitute teaching. I need a hobby, and for some reason I hate the idea of one that costs a lot of money. This one is not only free (except for gas to drive around), but it saves me money I might otherwise spend on junk of this type. It might even make me some money if we sell some of this stuff at our upcoming garage sale. So, this hobby, over time, will save and generate money, and help me keep more of what I earn.

Now, excuse me, please. I need to go shower.

so you basically made $30/hr.
you need a more productive hobby. i used to paint and write poetry and then i decided i needed a more 'profitable' hobby.
investing is that hobby. its become very profitable.
on the flip side i've become boring to a large portion of my friends since i can only talk about stocks, real estate and commodities. however they always keep in touch in case they need a good deal or need to know where to invest!
